Our pledge 95¢ of every dollar to the mission — administration capped at 5% of dues and donations, or $2,500, whichever is greater

Give to the mission, not the overhead.

Administration is capped in our bylaws — 5% of dues and donations, or $2,500, whichever is greater. A rule, not a promise in a brochure.

What your donation actually buys

Every amount maps to a real thing.

AmountWhat it does
$10Puts one filing fee’s worth of information in someone’s hands — the filing fee for many local offices that pay under $1,000 a year
$25Prints the voter guides for one precinct
$50Covers one candidate meet-and-greet: room, coffee, invitations, signage
$100Runs a “How to Run for Office” workshop for a dozen people
$250Compiles and publishes one county’s entire Empty Ballot List
$500Charters a new county — kit, training, and the organizer’s first three months
$1,000Funds a full filing-week push in one county: clinics, reminders, and a helper on call all week

These are our planning estimates for programs as we launch them. Gifts are unrestricted and go where they are most needed.

$10 a month is a workshop every quarter, forever. Monthly donors get the annual financial report early and an invitation to the yearly members’ call with the President.

Please read this before you give

Donations to LCV are not tax-deductible as charitable contributions. We are a 501(c)(4) social welfare organization, not a 501(c)(3) charity.

We chose that structure deliberately. It lets us do unlimited nonpartisan voter education and candidate training without applying to the IRS for advance recognition, and without the permanent ban on certain activities that binds a charity. The trade is deductibility. For most of our donors, giving $25 to $100, it’s a trade that costs nothing real.

If we later establish an affiliated education fund with 501(c)(3) status for tax-deductible gifts, we will say so plainly, on this page, with the difference spelled out.

What we will never do with your money

Other ways to give

Some of the most useful gifts aren’t money.

Sponsor a room

Own a hall, a taproom, a meeting space? Donate the room for a meet-and-greet and you’ve funded an entire event.

Sponsor a county

Underwrite a specific county’s charter and first-year program. We’ll tell you exactly what happened there in May.

Give in someone’s name

A membership in a young person’s name is $10 — and is a considerably more interesting gift than a gift card.

Employer matching

Some employers match 501(c)(4) gifts. Many don’t. Ask yours — we’ll provide whatever documentation they need.
